Wine pairings for duck

Not sure which wine to pair with your duck supper? Don’t just think that you need to stick to a Red wine; Rose or White wine can make a good match for the rich flavour of duck depending on what kind of dish you are creating.

If you are cooking an Oriental flavoured dish try a dry white wine, the wine has enough character to stand up to the duck and will complement the Asian spices beautifully. If you are cooking a more traditional dish for example our recipe for Whole Roast duck with rosemary then try a modern Southern French Red Wine, it will bring out the best in the duck and love the savoury character the rosemary brings. For a summer salad dish try a full flavoured dry rose. This will bring out the sweetness in the salad without overpowering the more delicate flavours. If you are combining your duck with a sweet sauce try a Pinot Noir, the light acidity of the wine will cut through the sweetness of the dish whilst complementing the duck.
